GLENCOE WOOL RUG CLEANING

wool rug cleaning
Wool has been used for centuries in the weaving and production of rugs. This textile is prized for its durability and versatility. Hand-crafted wool rugs take months to weave, are typically made from sheep or goat hair, and can last for decades with proper care. Because wool is made from animal hair, it ages beautifully, much like leather. It can also be a less expensive yet durable option for those who like the look of woven carpet but are not ready to invest in a Persian or Oriental rug.

Although wool is easy to care for, it does need to be professionally cleaned every few years. A professional cleaning will remove ground-in dirt and debris, and will help to combat odors and remove stains. Professional cleanings can also catch small issues before they become big problems – issues such as mold, mildew, moth damage, and loose knotting.

Wool Rugs In Lake Forest

In between professional cleanings, there are several steps you can take to extend the life of your wool rug. Here are the at-home cleaning techniques we recommend.

  • Vacuum to remove dust and dirt, and to keep the pile from becoming packed down. Wool rugs are hardy and can stand up to daily use. Over time, however, dust, dirt, and pet dander can settle into the fabric. Vacuuming regularly will help extend your rug’s longevity and combat odors.
  • Avoid Sunlight to keep colors vibrant and stop fading. Sunlight shining on a rug looks beautiful, but over time it will cause the colors to fade. Place your rug in an area that does not have much sunlight, or install curtains to minimize sun exposure.
  • Rotate your rug every six months to reduce excess wear and tear in one area of the rug. Repeated foot traffic can grind in dirt and cause fading or wear in common areas. Rotate your rug or move it to a new location every few months to help cut down on repeated wear and tear in the same area.
  • Spot- clean spills immediately to avoid a stain setting in. Spills happen, and fortunately, wool is quite forgiving. A spot clean will often take care of a small spill. If the stain is large, or if it sets in despite spot cleaning, contact your area professional rug cleaner for assistance.
  • Hang your rug outside every three to six months. Fresh air helps to combat mold, mildew, and dry rot. This will dry any damp spots and freshen the rug.

Of course, if at any time your rug becomes stained or damaged, contact your carpet cleaning professional immediately for a complimentary assessment. The sooner a rug is treated, the less likely it is that damage will spread.
